1 Flights to SA were not that sorted out. We had to arrive a day ahead, and had to miss the last day shuttle due to our earlier flight. Those disconnects were disappointing.
2 The lodges were wonderful. Probably due to the COVID disruption, walking tours became driven tours. We did see a lot, but I was so looking forward to the walking game drives.
3 I understand the schedule pressures that made the city walking tour in the AM and the climb to Table Mountain in the afternoon. But, that's after another scheduled great (big) meal that most of us decided to miss due to the impending climb.
4 Wine tours were great, but the dining schedules were so compacted that we ate too much in too short a time: Breakfast in Franshoek at 0800, with the wine/foodie tour starting at 1000 in Stellenboesh that lasted to 1300. Lunch followed right after and we didn't finish until 1500. Then dinner at 1800?! All the food were tasty, but it was too much in a very short time. It became an Active Eating Adventure tour.
5 Perhaps because of the 1-3 activity rating that the activities were very light but the eating was heavy? We were used to the 3-4 ratings of the previous trips where the food was hearty but appropriate to the level of activities.
6 Love the tour guide: knowledgeable and full of stories and background of the country. We found out that this was his first tour for Active. He's a keeper.

An African safari has been on the top of my bucket list ever since high school. This year, I finally checked that box and the trip could not have been more amazing! In addition to seeing the Big 5 and other amazing animals up close and personal in their natural environment, we also explored Cape Town and Table Mountain and wine country! Our guide, Jamie, was extremely knowledgeable about every topic and I came away having learned and experienced so much more than I ever imagined. I highly recommend this trip!

The trip title should be Makalali private game reserve and Cape Town.
We did not go to Kruger National Park on this trip. Kruger was never listed as part of the safari trip.

It was a special opportunity to visit three private game reserves bordering the Kruger. We stayed at two amazing camps and had a bit of a wilderness experience at a third camp where we saw no other people or jeeps for three days. The latter may have run a bit long, but it was interesting to get to know the park in more detail. The game drives at Notten's and Camp George produced outstanding viewing opportunities of a wide range of animals that were the highlight of this trip. The Cape Town leg at the end could benefit from some tweaking, but we loved our trip up Table Mountain and the Franschhoek area was beautiful. Overall an unforgettable trip that we feel privileged to have been able to join.

I could not have imagined how close we would get to the animals and how much I would learn about their behaviors. The private game reserves were amazing! Loved the accommodations, people and food as well as all the amazing animals we got to get up close and personal with!
