The last 5 days of the Kauri trip gave us a sampling of New Zealand's North Island (hikes, waterfalls, geysers and caverns) and Maori culture, arts and crafts.

Never hungry! Jo and Andy will gladly give you two desserts. And Jo’s grandad was a baker so she fresh bakes celebrity quality desserts. And curry. The food is so good! There are always snacks for you between meals: good ones, not the kind that make you gassy and bloated. And then, there’s the majesty of the hiking. The local knowledge of geology, history, and culture that Andy shares on the bus, it’s like Discovery Channel that you get to interrupt and ask awkward questions of. The truly challenging mountain biking. The incredible river rafting - my favorite. All of which is on par with one of Jo’s desserts. Go ahead, take the Kauri trip and see if I’m right.

The highlight of the trip was the Tongariro Alpine crossing. It was a challenging hike with magnificent scenery. Definitely one of the best hikes we have done.

Best hike across the Tongariro! The trip itself was very well planned. Andy and Jo are two wonderful guides, who are both knowledgable and cheerful.

Being escorted by knowledgeable guides helped us to experience New Zealand in a way that we could not have planned on our own. Between activities, we learned about local customs, history, and geology, and met like-minded fellow travelers who made the journey even more memorable. We had maximum adventures with minimum stress, since agendas and meals were pre-planned. And our guides were awesome chefs!

These guys run such an amazing trip. I can't believe how much we did in five days (I joined the second half after the 8 day Tui trip in the South Island). The pace was fast, the variety was terrific. The guides - Andy and Jo - I can't say enough about how great they were - caring, encouraging, upbeat, fun, knowledgeable. There is a lot to learn about New Zealand in the North, and amazing hikes and views. The places we stayed were great, much nicer than I expected. The ability of the guides to cook for us and organize picnic meals that were all great was another surprise. Not an easy trip - the part about getting fit is not a joke. It makes the trip more enjoyable. Basically, I am so glad I did this trip. The memories are with me all the time.
