It was a fabulous trip probably the best we've ever done. Our 3 guides were wonderful, so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. They enriched our experience immensely.

I expected to be awed by the southern Utah Mighty 5 and pampered by the 3 Austin Adventures guides and was totally satisfied on both accounts. The sights were magnificent and the hikes were manageable in terms of both distance and elevation changes. My personal highlight was the canyoneering experience on Day 2! The guides were unfailingly attentive to our needs, provided informative context for all our activities and the geology around us, and continuously adjusted the pace of each day's activities to accommodate our states of mind and physical abilities. Our guides were always carefully monitoring the disposition of the 13 excursion participants, adroitly adjusting schedules and assembly times to meet whatever the prevailing sentiment suggested. They put their guests first and foremost. The vans transporting us were comfortable, constantly cleaned, and safely driven throughout the trip. The lodging and meal locations were consistently first-class, even when we lunched in the wilderness! We were impressed with the gracious latitude Austin Adventures granted us on selecting evening meals -- most evenings we could order anything we wanted on the menu. My bottom line is that Austin Adventures hit it out of the ballpark with this trip!

We had a fantastic time! The expectations were high, as we completed a trip with Active Adventures in New Zealand several years ago. Austin Adventures did not disappoint! Our guides David, Steve and Joel were outstanding with their knowledge, their ability to work flawlessly together and their organization of the trip. The accommodations were wonderful and the food was beyond delicious! We made memories to last a lifetime!
Our only suggestion would be to use 'sprinter' vans as opposed to the vans we had. They are much easier and quicker to get in and out of; especially given the average age of our group. We were all in the 60s range, some older, some younger. It's not easy to get in and out of the far back seat with gear at our age! The sprinter vans we had in NZ had one center aisle and overhead storage so our gear wasn't at our feet; a possible tripping hazard. They were also a smoother ride. We had one couple cancel before the trip so we were very pleased to have only 13 in our group. Two packed vans would have been a little miserable.
Be advised, we booked our trip through Active Adventures so the after report I already filled out went to them! We were not aware that we could also have a travel wallet with Austin Adventures.

The trip was everything that I had hoped it would be. The hikes and hiking destinations were spectacular. The guides were fun and interesting. They were also very helpful when we needed information regarding free day activities and when people had minor falls or trail issues. I also thoroughly enjoyed the other guests on our tour. I really think that the tour was much more fun as part of this group than it would have been if I had done it as an individual or a couple. This was really the right way to experience these trails and parks.

The Pika trip was a replacement trip that my son Ted and I had originally planned for Bhutan in the fall of 2020, then Covid got in the way. The Pika Trip was completely up to the standards of my four previous Active Adventures trips(Dolomites, Nepal, Patagonia, Machu Picchu). Each of them was a trip of a lifetime experience and the Pika was no exception and it was right here in the USA.
The Austin Adventure guides (Alisa and Steve) were hardworking, accommodating, knowledgeable and flat out fun to be around. As all four previous trips were outside the US, I had found that international travel can be a bit tiring, however once in the hands of the guide(s) you could just relax and enjoy the new world. Surprisingly it was the same on this trip. Once we met the guides it was all “no worries”.
The food….well we ate like kings. If you have not yet had a buffalo steak…well I am long over due for another. The lodging?….a couple of our rooms were almost too nice for a hiking trip. This was NOT camping. :-)
And the scenery, do I dare say was spectacular. Photography is my hobby (some say disease) and the colors….oh my the colors.
Sooo, I am now 75 years old and had in mind that this would be my last Active Adventures trip. Am now rethinking that. All you young’uns out there who might be reading this, if you are debating, 75 comes around pretty damned fast. If you have the means, sign up. It is best way to maximize your trip, have a helluva good time and experience the world around you to the fullest. I guarantee it!

This trip covered highlights of all, or most of the southern parks in Utah. Having never been to Utah, the experience opened my eyes to the wonders of this part of our country. The guides were both great, the food excellent, and the hotels and other lodgings above average. Definitely a trip for those who like hiking, but not too difficult for most casual hikers.
